Small Country House - 22 Cozy Photo Ideas

Cute little country house

Today's ideas for summer residents are dedicated to small country houses - the photos will be beautiful, inspiring and memorable. Many of you, dear readers, dream of having, in addition to the main country house, a small, so-called guest house. My husband built me such a house - a workshop and I am very grateful to him for it.

Beautiful little country house

In such a house I paint my paintings, draw inspiration from solitude and contemplation, and take a break from dacha worries and worries. This, believe me, is extremely important, otherwise you can start to lash out at your family, but why would they need that? Therefore, a small house is a godsend for such unloading moments in life.

Small cozy country house

By the way, materials for the construction of such a house can be purchased at bargain prices, or even obtained practically for free, as in the case of my husband’s brother. He lives in the Novgorod region and at a sawmill they sold him a slab car for 500 rubles.

Small country house made from scrap materials

But croaker is also a very good building material. The main thing is to process and trim it at home - with a circular saw, a grinding machine, etc. Therefore, such small country houses are quite affordable for any family with a small budget.

Simple budget small country house

However, a small house can also be the primary building at your dacha if you are just starting to improve your own territory. No matter what, you will have comfort and a roof over your head.

The best option for initial buildings could be a small country house. In the future, it can be used either as a guest room or as an additional room for living and recreation. Or you can give it to the children to play with - all the kids love it when they have their own corner.

Unusual small country house

I talked to many developers and they all unanimously claim that such small buildings will cost very little money. As I already said, you can actually make such a house from recycled materials, process it and it will look like a million!

Small garden house

Now you can watch various training videos that show in detail how to build such a small country house with your own hands. In my memory, there are even examples where a simple pensioner, alone, made herself a nice house for summer living.

Simple country house

To build any dacha structure, you must adhere to some basic construction principles. They are not complicated and quite understandable.

Rules for building a country house

Pay attention to the foundation - in any case, your house should be on an elevation so that the wooden logs of the lower frame do not rot. By avoiding dampness, you will preserve your building for a long time. The ideal option for the foundation of a small house would be concrete blocks or brick pillars.

DIY small country house

I don’t consider strip foundations, I don’t consider piles, because it’s expensive and doesn’t make sense. Concrete blocks are an ideal option. Lay a layer of roofing felt waterproofing between the block and the bottom frame of timber, then moisture will not be drawn into the wood from the ground through the block.

Small country house

In the photo example above, these concrete blocks are very clearly visible - they are simply mounted on a gravel bed. Since the house is light, this is quite enough.

Interesting photo idea for a small country house

Wood is an ideal option for small country houses. Moreover, it is best to take frame construction as the basic option. If the house is summer, then you don’t have to put anything inside the frame at all. And if the house is planned for the off-season, then you can lay a 100 or 50 mm layer of insulation between the walls.

Small country house container

Separately, I would like to show ideas for container houses. They are good in their own way - because they can be closed with shutters and thereby completely protect their contents from thieves. The only disadvantage of such structures is that they get very hot in the summer sun.

Option for a country house from a container

A container house may be suitable if you have access to cheap used containers. In all other cases, it is more optimal and expedient to build from wood. It's my opinion.

Small country house hut

Very beautiful and cozy small hut-style country houses. The building itself is triangular in shape; the role of the walls is taken over by the roof down to the ground. The space in the corners of the house can be used for cabinets and shelves for storing things and household equipment.

Small hut-style country house - photo in winter

By the way, this house design is very energy efficient. In winter, a hut-style house retains heat much better than a classic square. Of course, provided that the roof and end walls are well insulated.

Summer version of a small country house with large windows

If you are only interested in the summer option, then you can plan large windows to contemplate your own summer cottage. In summer, all the windows can be opened, turning the house into a terrace with the possibility of living on hot nights.

Small country house with a beautiful porch

Any, even a small country house, will look more attractive if it is equipped with a veranda or porch. This is both convenient - you can take off your dirty shoes, and practical - you can sit in front of the entrance, admiring the garden and flower beds.

Small one-story country house

Small country houses are easy to build with your own hands, with a minimum of financial investment. Such a structure is quite suitable for summer living for a family of 4 people, because in the summer at the dacha during the day we spend most of our time outdoors.

Principles of building a small country house

And in the material about the principles of building a small country house, I talk about all the stages of its construction. I hope that there is enough information for you, I wish you pleasant viewing and inspiration!

Today, living outside the city has become very fashionable. In most cases, a small house is built. It is always cozy in it, and to build it, no serious preparation is required. When it is necessary to take into account the number of floors, the construction of an extension.

Project and layout of a small house with an attic

Basically, a house is built according to certain conditions and specific standard designs. The choice of design is made by each owner individually.

Typically, such a house has the necessary premises for living and outbuildings.

Many summer residents build attic floors with their own hands. Such a house usually reaches a maximum area of 60 m2. You can make your own garage in the house. This house is distinguished by its beauty and aesthetics.

When the area of the house is less than 50 m2, you should not start multi-story construction. It is better to build a small house in which the whole family will be comfortable.

Layout of a small one-story house

To build a small house, you need to follow a certain sequence:

  • interior planning;
  • selection of materials;
  • calculation of estimates.

A small country house should have free space for three people. Therefore, such a house must have:

  • two bedrooms,
  • living room,
  • kitchen,
  • bathroom,
  • utility rooms.

The garage must be located separately from the house. If you make an entrance to the garage directly from the house, then exhaust gases will definitely get inside the room. No amount of doors or insulation can help.

When choosing materials for a country house, it is best to purchase energy-saving materials: foam blocks or aerated concrete.

It is made for such materials. As a result, the costs associated with future maintenance of the house are reduced. When planning is completed, all necessary materials are selected, an estimate is drawn up and construction begins. How to build a small house with your own hands step by step.

Site selection

To build a house, you need to choose a site so that it is easy to connect to it:

  • engineering Communication;
  • electric wires;
  • gas supply;
  • water pipes;
  • sewerage

We select the necessary building materials

So, the project is ready, all network organizations have accepted it. All that remains is to implement it.

Almost all projects are developed taking into account certain materials. Therefore, when choosing a project, it would be correct to immediately select the type of material.

The number of floors, the design of the heating system and the implementation of thermal insulation will depend on this.

Popular materials currently include:

  • wood;
  • brick;
  • foam blocks;
  • expanded clay

Then the walls are built. First, the corners are aligned. The first rows are laid with constant monitoring of the building level.

The cement layer is made small to reduce the energy-saving properties of the house. After the masonry walls have completely dried and become very strong, they begin laying the second floor.
If the house is one-story, a roof is installed.

It is better to install it immediately after the cement mortar has completely dried. Such a building will be reliably protected from environmental influences. First, a wooden rafter system is installed. It is designed to attach a waterproofing layer, then lay the outer covering: tiles or metal tiles.

The interior finishing is done last. The ceiling surface is covered with plasterboard, then everything is plastered and painting is carried out.

To get a beautiful view, install suspended ceilings. The walls are first plastered and leveled. They are covered with wallpaper or covered with decorative plaster. The choice of materials depends entirely on the individual taste of the home owner.

Not everyone can afford a big house. It's not about financial capabilities at all. Sometimes you have to be content with little, based on the available territory. In addition, the rejection of excesses and the general desire for minimalism is a fashionable trend.

Creating an interesting and comfortable design for a small house is the main priorities of the owner. How to achieve this is described in our article.

Small private house: general characteristics of the object

The small size of a private house is most often found in gardening partnerships. Small areas with a dense arrangement do not provide room for action. Most owners of such dacha properties plan not only to relax on the lawn, but also to engage in gardening and gardening. Considering this, every piece of land is very valuable.

In this option, a small country house is what you need. A compact home will allow you to hide from the rain, spend the night and even receive guests. Building such “mansions” is much easier and more economical. If you approach the arrangement of your home correctly, you will get a completely cozy and comfortable option.

For full functionality, in case of a short stay on the site, 1 room is enough for a summer resident. At the same time, a storage room or a separate building is allocated for household equipment.

If a large family is vacationing at the dacha, it is advisable to provide a small kitchen. It is recommended to divide a single room into zones, if necessary.

If you plan to stay at the dacha for a long time, then it is better to think through the interior of a small private house in more detail. It might be possible to:

  • make an extension;
  • use the attic space;
  • use height more efficiently;
  • use highly functional furniture.

All of the above requirements apply not only to residential buildings on a summer cottage, but also to small-sized mansions. In our country, these occur quite often. Some people are embarrassed by a small hallway in a private house, while for others 10 square meters is more than enough to run a full-fledged household.

Basic options for efficient use of space

The most important rule for those who want to expand their space is not to store unnecessary things. This is especially true for country houses. Most of us try to transport all out-of-fashion, shabby, and other unwanted things to our country estates. You must be able to part with trash or give it a second life in time.

Minimalism in a compact space is an ideal condition for visually expanding the area. The fewer objects on the territory of a small house, the more pleasant the perception of reality. This applies not only to large-sized furniture, but also to all kinds of trinkets.

A two-story house is a good solution for a small plot of land. Everything that cannot be placed in width will be placed in height. It is advisable to initially carefully approach the marking of the territory.

However, if an unplanned situation arises, it is also possible to find a way out. For example, build on a building. If there is an unused attic, then repair and arrange this area.

To increase the efficiency of home operation, you need to be more attentive to the filling of the facility. All furnishings must be thought out to the smallest detail. A good choice is transformable furniture:

  • comfortable folding bed, pull-out sofa, bunk bed;
  • table-book or folding model;
  • extensive shelving storage system.

Even the furniture options themselves can be multifunctional (loft-type bed or with storage drawers, stair steps-wardrobe, bench with a double bottom). The main thing is that the useful space is used to the maximum. Numerous photos of a small private house clearly show how varied the ideas for successfully loading space are.

Local area: how to cope with the lack of space

As a rule, a small house is located on an equally compact area. To get rid of this drawback, it is advisable to follow the same path as when organizing space inside the house:

  • give up unnecessary things;
  • remember about ergonomics;
  • make the most of every centimeter of space.

If possible, a small courtyard of a private house is cleared of additional buildings and large-scale plantings that create dense shadow. An open space with lawn grass, garden paths, and low-growing flower beds will please the eye and visually expand the area.

If it is impossible to clear the territory, they try to “open” the approaches to the house as much as possible. Outbuildings, greenhouses, and tall plants should be kept away from the building if possible. Thus, it will be possible to let light and air into the territory, visually “stretching” the compact area.

Interesting ideas for organizing a small space

In any house, the main part of the area is occupied by sleeping space. For a small home this is most critical. It is advisable to place the stock in such a way that it takes up minimal space. A good idea would be to install the bed under the ceiling. This can be a specially designed structure on supports, simulating a second floor.

A worthy option would be a loft bed with a sleeping area on top and a kitchenette below. Human imagination is limitless. Based on this idea, there are various examples of entire room complexes.

In addition to the bed, a table takes up a lot of space. To solve the problem of unloading space, it is advisable to abandon the usual version of this item. Use various ideas with folding products. For example, a folding version screwed to the wall, a transforming table or a deliberately widened window sill.

In addition to unusual models, non-standard arrangements are used. The table can be taken out into the corridor or even outside (if the house is summer). In this case, a good solution would be to build a veranda or a removable canopy.

Particular attention should be paid to seating areas. The sofa, bench or chairs should not be “empty”. The use of built-in storage systems will help improve the situation with unloading space. You can use a box as a chair. Lightweight, wicker options are preferred.

A small house with a modest plot is the problem of many Russian summer residents. It is difficult, but possible, to rationally use a tiny space to create conditions conducive to a comfortable stay or a full life.

Photos of small private houses

Compact houses in many countries have already become an excellent alternative to classic housing. Young enthusiasts and professional architects are designing incredibly simple and functional houses that do not require major construction and can even move with their owners. We present to you a selection of interesting stories about compact green housing construction that we published on the site in 2015.

This is the story of a young couple who decided to quit their jobs, build a small one on wheels, and travel the world. If you are a nomad at heart, this story is just for you.

Many people now doubt that a compact home can be suitable for everyday family life. Although we know very well that most families live in cramped apartments, in our understanding a house must be large.

Can compact small houses be luxurious and beautiful. This little house on wheels has received one of the highest AA comfort ratings. It is positioned as “the first compact smart home of increased comfort in the United States.” Let's see what's so comfortable there...

In Bartislav they designed a completely autonomous compact house in the shape of an egg, or maybe a submarine. After all, it is on boats that people learn to organize their lives in a small space. This house uses autonomous energy sources, has a compact volume, the comfort of a warm bed, running water and hot food.

The profession of architect is dying; already now about 90% of all buildings in the world are being built without the participation of an architect. The modern consumer is becoming more thrifty and responsible in the use of resources, time and money. Nobody wants to build housing for 10 million, everyone wants to build a house 10 times cheaper and faster. And now this is possible more than ever.

When building an eco-house, we mainly pursue one goal - to build the most inexpensive eco-house in a relatively short period of time. Archgarage studio proposed its 8 principles, which are based on the concept of “Anti-Consumption Architecture”.

Our summer residents have long been using various types of trailers to arrange their plots. Here is a great example of reusing an old railway carriage into a cozy, functional home.

Four couples from Texas bought a beautiful plot of land on the banks of a river, but instead of building one large house, they decided to save money and built 4 compact and eco-friendly houses on one plot. And they made the kitchen and all communications common.

1. Small, but remote. "Official" record holder (Canada, Toronto).

This house is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the smallest house in the world. Its area is 28 m2. Despite its tiny dimensions (width - 2 meters, length - 14 meters, ceiling height - 2.36 meters), The house is quite comfortable and very cozy.

It has everything you need for normal living: a compact kitchen with a folding table, an armchair and a washing machine; bedroom with folding bed; "living room" with sofa and TV and a normal sized bathroom. There is even a basement, a well-kept tiny garden and charming patio at the back of the house.

The house was built in 1912 and immediately became a local landmark.

2. "Fisherman's House"(UK, Conwy).

The smallest house in the UK is considered to be a “fisherman's cottage”, which is located in Conwy, a small coastal town in north Wales.

It was built back in the 14th century, its dimensions are: 3.05 x 1.8 m. On the ground floor near the wall of this house there was a bunker with coal, a place for cooking over an open fire and under the stairs there was a tank with water. On the second floor there was a living room with a bed, bedside table, stove and washbasin. People lived in it until the beginning of the 20th century, and since 1900 it became a museum.

They say that in the 19th century a family of 8 people even lived in it!

3. For resourceful romantics (Austria, Salzburg).

This small house at number 109 on Altmarket Square, whose facade is only one and a half meters, was also built in the Middle Ages - in the 15th century, and a romantic story is associated with its construction. Once upon a time, a girl agreed to her boyfriend to marry him only when he had his own home. The young man was very poor, but smart - he squeezed his house into the wall between two existing houses.

4. What's behind the door? "Fake" record holder

Residents of Amsterdam never tire of repeating that the smallest house in their city is number 7. However, this is not entirely true. The fact is that at the time the building was erected, the housing tax directly depended on the width of the facade. And the enterprising owner built a full-fledged house, but with a facade of 1.1 m, which in fact is just an entrance (house no. 7).

5. “Kiosk House”

You might not even notice this house, thinking that it’s just a kiosk. It is attached to the Church of the Holy Spirit in the New Town and has always had its own address. The house was built in 1843 as a trading facility for the sale of Constantinople tobacco. Later, overseas cigars imported from Cuba and Mexico were also sold here. Noble clients were even honored with a glass of wine. During the Polish Uprising, there was a turnout of underground fighters in the house. Later, magazines and postcards from Paris depicting women in negligee were added to the product range. This caused a big scandal in Catholic Warsaw. Today it still sells newspapers.

6. Modern minimalism(Japan).

The Japanese have always been famous for their ability to rationally use useful space. Due to the lack of land, they are forced to somehow get out and build houses on tiny plots. This house was built on a plot of 15 m2, but the designer managed to increase the space and build housing of 44 m2. Inside there is a kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom and even a small balcony.

7. House of forest fairies

A cozy mini-cottage with an area of 21 m2 is located in a forested area, not far from a small lake. It seems that magical forest fairies live in this small house. But nevertheless, the cottage has everything you need: a kitchen-living room, a bathroom with toilet, a bedroom and, as you can see, a small veranda. Compact and cozy.

8. Every cricket know its own corner! (Japan Tokyo).

On a small plot of land, enterprising Japanese built a comfortable dwelling with an area of 29 m2. The house is two-story, designed for a family of three (a couple with a daughter) and has a living room, two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a nursery and even a garage for a car.

And since the landscape on which the dwelling was built had a triangular shape, the architects had to repeat it when designing the house.

9. Super-slim (Brazil,Madre De Dius).

This tall but very narrow house was built in the town of Madre De Dius, Bahia. The width of its facade facing the street is only 1 meter 10 centimeters, and the widest place in the house is about two meters. The height of the entire house is 10 meters.

The house has three floors, which compactly accommodate two living rooms, three bedrooms, a kitchen and a veranda.

10. Residential art object

In 2012, an unusual narrow house was built in the center of Warsaw. The facade of the new building, squeezed between two apartment buildings, is only 152 centimeters, and the internal width of the dwelling varies from 122 to 72 centimeters. The living area of the house is 14.5 m2.

Despite its small size, the house has everything you need for a comfortable life - bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen.

The building is registered as an art object, and not a residential premises, since its parameters do not comply with Polish building regulations.

11. Five-star hotel in 53 m2(Germany, Amberg).

The German Wedding House hotel is only 2.5 m wide. Its living area is 53 m 2. Despite this, the only room available at the hotel has to be reserved several months in advance, such is its popularity. The hotel is squeezed into a narrow space between two neighboring buildings. The interior of the wedding house makes an unforgettable impression on guests - it is equipped with a comfortable bed, a fireplace, luxurious furniture, a TV and even a SPA salon.

The hotel was built in 1728, when the city council of Amberg decided that there would be more weddings if newly married couples had accommodation that they could move into immediately after the wedding. But since it was unrealistic to provide housing for all the newlyweds even then, they found another way out: they built this tiny house in which the happy couple spent several weeks and then passed it on to the next young family. Since then it has become known as a wedding house.

Legend has it that those who spend at least one night at the hotel live happily ever after and never get divorced. Therefore, many newlyweds want to start their family life in this “happy” hotel.

12. Mini on the ranch

Not everything is big in Texas. These small houses are located in Luling. They are sustainable, energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Inside each house there is one large room, a bathroom and a kitchen. The opposite side of the room is used as a living room and bedroom. When friends come to the owners, air mattresses are laid out on the floor.

13. House on wheels (USA).

Tumbleweed, a company that specializes in miniature buildings, has created one of the smallest houses in the world. Its area is only 6 m2.

This miniature house consists of a kitchen with a refrigerator, a shower room with a toilet and a bedroom in the attic. A distinctive feature of the home is its mobility. The house is placed on a special trailer platform and can be easily transported from place to place. In addition, it is equipped with a simple and convenient system for quickly connecting to electrical networks and water supply.

14. Squirrel wheel(Germany,Karlsruhe).

Students from Germany have designed unique houses that include all the necessary functions within one room. The cylindrical Roll House has three separate areas complete with a bed, chair, table, kitchen sink, shower and toilet.

You need to go to the bedroom - go to the center of the block, turn the structure... And now you are on the bed, where Velcro holds the mattress and pillows. If you need something in the kitchen, move to the next compartment. And everything would be fine, but the question arises: does the house have an emergency brake? So, just in case...

15. Rubik's cube (Austria, Styria).

The mobile home project is called "Hypercubus" because of its appearance. The first such house appeared in Austria. Initially, the project was conceived as a hotel room, but such houses can also be used independently. The “cubes” can be built in a certain place and, if desired, transported wherever needed. Inside the house has all the necessary amenities and a high level of comfort.

Mass production of such housing is planned.

16. 5 m2 for 120 thousand pounds (UK, London).

The smallest apartment in London measures just 5.4 m2. The unusual apartment appeared in 1987, when, during the boom in the British housing market, the utility room of one of the houses in the elite area of Knightsbridge was converted into a separate apartment measuring 3.3 by 1.65 meters. In addition to the bedroom, it has a kitchen, toilet, shower and wardrobe.
The first buyer paid £36.5 thousand for the apartment. Now its value is more than 120 thousand pounds. For comparison, £200,000 can easily buy a small antique castle.

But this is not the smallest apartment in the world...

17. Man in an aquarium (

A miniature house has been created in Sweden from the window of which tourists can admire fish. The Utter Inn is located on Lake Malaren, close to the shore. It is a small house that includes a small room, a kitchen and a terrace. On the terrace, travelers can enjoy the views of the lake, and a room at a depth of 3 m will be prepared for them to sleep. The windows of the room look into the surface of the lake, where fish live their lives, occasionally looking out of curiosity into the windows, like into an aquarium. You can get to the hotel by boat from the port the nearest settlementVasteras. It is one of only four operating underwater hotels in the world. The other three are in China, the UAE and Turkey.

18. Call me when you get home ().

The smallest house in Russia was built by Viktor Razuvaev, who lives in Mordovia (Zubovo-Polyansky district). The basis was the frame of a telephone booth, which he slightly expanded and made more spacious, with two windows. The result was a house with an area of 2.7 m2. Of course, it’s quite cramped inside, but Cheburashka also lived in a telephone booth. Here you can watch TV, sitting on a special reclining chair, make tea, and take a break from the everyday hustle and bustle. The house has autonomous heating, so you can live here even in the cold season. True, there is no place to spend the night there yet, but the owner of the house is already working on a mechanism that will transfer his house to a horizontal position suitable for sleeping at night.
