So we learned that our country was attacked by the Germans.
My mother, brother and I were evacuated. My mother’s parents lived in the village of Kstovo, Gorky Region. So we came to them. I studied at a rural school. In each classroom there was a map of the country, where every day we marked the movements of our troops with flags. They grieved when the Germans entered Odessa. But how they rejoiced when our troops won a victory near Moscow! Everyone shouted “Hurray!”, kissed and cried with joy. And the teachers are with us.
