Biography of Irina Zabiyaka

The future singer Irina Alekseevna Zabiyaka was born in Ukraine on December 20, 1982 in the city of Kirovograd, where her grandmother then lived. From the age of one, the future singer lived with her parents in Kaliningrad. Irina was left without a father early. The mother raised the girl according to strict rules. Previously, she often went on sea voyages, but then she decided to spend more time with her child and got a job, first as a cleaner, and then as a postman.

The girl bombarded her mother with questions about her father, and one day she learned that her dad was an outstanding revolutionary fighting in Chile. Among her friends she constantly repeated this story invented by her mother. The word “Chile” was mentioned so often in stories that it stuck to the young fidget as a nickname. Over time, it became fateful and formed the basis for the name of the musical group.

Irina’s low, specific voice attracted attention even as a child. The manifestation of diverse interests was only encouraged. The girl studied in various circles, was interested in singing and dancing, gymnastics and journalism, kickboxing, playing the guitar and piano.

After graduating from school, Irina received the specialty of a hairdresser-fashion designer, postponing higher education for the future. Love of freedom and musical abilities played a role - by the age of 18, the girl already had experience writing songs. The first of them is “Whirlpool”. During the same period, she met the composer Karlov.

Ira’s musical career began with joining Sergei Karlov’s student music group as a backing vocalist. Finally, the group “Chile” by Irina Zabiyaka became very popular. The joint work bore fruit - they recorded their first disc. Working in clubs brought income, but young musicians dreamed of great success. To fulfill their dream, the group went on a concert tour in Poland. The success of "Chile" was noticed by the producers, and from then on they received the green light.

The singer has five albums to her credit:

  • “There is wind in my head”;
  • "Time to Sing";
  • "Made in Chile";
  • "Summer Crime";
  • "Crime".

The creative team of “Chile” is not going to stop there.

Biography

The road to popularity was not paved with yellow bricks for Irina. Everything was prosaic. Her musical career would not have taken place without a significant meeting, which grew into friendship, and then into a creative union with Sergei Karpov. The first meeting took place in absentia at one of the student concerts of the group in which Sergei was a member at that time, and which Irina came to listen to. A few days later, fate brought the guys together again in the rehearsal room, and a few hours later Irina was part of Sergei’s musical group as a backing vocalist. From that moment on, the work of Irina Zabiyaka and Sergei Karpov began on the overall result.

At the very beginning, Sergei was the composer, arranger and frontman in the group, and Irina was only a minor link. Later, the guys had the opportunity to record their own disc, with which they decided to try their luck with the capital’s music producers. In Moscow, as a reaction to their songs, they heard only a categorical “no.”

During the first month in Moscow, spent in search of a musical patron for the group, the guys had to be content with only a dozen concerts in clubs, but this could not bring enough income, and they decided to go on a musical tour of Poland, which was a huge success. So Irina became a full-fledged soloist of the group. And only after that the music producers reacted positively to the guys and gave them the green light. From that moment on, Irina became the leader of the Chi-Li group.

Today, Irina, as part of the group, has five albums: “Crime”, “Summer-Crime”, “Made in Chile”, “Time to Sing”, “There is Wind in the Head”. Her songs, the authorship of which she is also directly related to, were on top-leading radio stations in Poland, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine for several weeks. The Chi-Li group has repeatedly received awards from the Golden Gramophone and Russian Radio.

Ukrainian singer Katya Chilly, whose real name is Ekaterina Petrovna Kondratenko, at 38 years old looks much younger than her age thanks to her fragile physique (the singer’s height is 152 cm, weight 41 kg) and her young voice.

A girl was born in Kyiv on July 12, 1978. From early childhood, Katya began to show musical abilities. Already from the first grades of ten years old, she entered a music school in two departments at once - string instruments and piano. In addition, the talented girl enrolled in a folk singing school, and then became a soloist in the Orelya choir.

Her versatile talents allowed Katya to loudly announce herself throughout the country at the age of 8. During the broadcast of the television concert “Children of Chernobyl,” which was broadcast on the central television of the Soviet Union, Katya performed the song “33 Cows.” The little big-eyed girl was remembered by many viewers back then.

6 years later, the singer received her first award at the Fant-Loto Nadezhda competition. Then she was noticed by the famous composer Sergei Ivanovich Smetanin. He invited the girl to collaborate, the fruit of which was Ekaterina’s first album “Mermaids In Da House”, and she herself changed her name to the creative pseudonym Katya Chilly.

Despite her busy stage life, Kondratenko did not forget her studies. As a teenager, she became a student at the Lyceum at the National University, and then followed the path of a philologist and folklorist, entering a prestigious university. She devoted her thesis to the study of ancient civilization. Katya completed her graduate studies in two cities at once - Kyiv and Lyublino.

Music

Folklore themes formed the basis of Katya's first album Chilly. Her original style and unusual musical material impressed listeners and made the singer popular. In 1997, Katya, at the invitation of MTV head Bill Rowdy, took part in filming programs for this channel.

In addition to the national competition “Chervona Ruta”, where the singer becomes a frequent guest, she travels abroad to participate in international projects, one of which was the Edinburgh festival “Fringe”. All events indicated that a new star had appeared on the stage's horizon, whose creative biography promised to be fruitful and happy.

Injury

During one of the tours, an unexpected event happened. During the performance, the singer was seriously injured, tripping and falling off the stage. The injuries were serious - spinal damage, concussion. Colleague Sashko Polozhinsky provided her with first aid, and he also helped during rehabilitation. During this period, the girl disappeared from the media space. The disease did not subside for a long time, her health deteriorated, and Katya began to despair.

Against the background of her experiences, she developed severe depression. It took time and support from family to overcome this condition. But, having pulled herself together, Katya Chilly creates her second album, “Dream,” with which she even managed to perform in forty cities in the UK. After a concert in London, which was broadcast live by the BBC, the world-famous company offered to shoot Katya a video for one of the hits for a year-long show on the channel.

Experiments

A new round in Katya Chilly’s work was her album “I am Young,” which was released in 2006. A year before, the singer’s maxi-single “Pivni” was released, which was created with the participation of many famous DJs of that time: Tka4, Evgeniy Arsentiev, DJ Lemon, Professor Moriarti and LP. A video was also created for this song, made in 3D technology, new for that time.

The bonus of the disc was the hit “Ponad Khmarami”, which Katya Chilly sang in a duet with Sashko Polozhinsky. A little later, a new version of this song will appear, but in a joint performance by Katya and the hip-hop group TNMK.

The album, consisting of 13 tracks, among which the most popular songs were “Bantik”, “Krashen Vechir”, “Zozulya”, impressed listeners and critics. In it, Katya Chilly combined the incompatible - folklore and electronics. Folk songs, as well as poetic lines of modern authors, were used as source material.

After the release of this disc, Katya Chilly rethinks the concept of her work and concentrates only on acoustic music. She completely changes the composition of the band and begins touring with live concerts, without a single hint of artificial sound. Now her group includes instruments such as piano, violin, double bass, drum book, and drums. The girl goes on stage barefoot, wearing simple dresses. She is invited as a headliner by many Ukrainian music festivals: “Spіvochi Terasi”, “Golden Gate”, “Chervona Ruta”, “Antonich-fest”, “Rozhanytsya”.

Despite the fact that the singer’s discography is small (only 5 albums), all Katya Chilly’s concerts are sold out.

At the end of 2016, Katya Chilly participated in the “People. Hard Talk” program, where she talked about her plans for the future and the sources of her inspiration.

Katya Chilly today

On January 22, 2017, the seventh season of the show “Voice of the Country” began on the Ukrainian channel “1+1”. This year's lineup of judges has changed somewhat compared to previous Voice of the Country programs. It included two previous coaches and two new coaches and. During one of the first auditions, which took place on January 26, Katya Chilly appeared on stage. She performed the musical composition “Svetlitsa”. For her performance, the singer chose an ethnic style: she wore a linen scarf, a canvas dress, and a special sign was painted on her chest.

As a result of the blind selection, all four judges turned to her, who were indescribably delighted with the appearance of the talented singer as a participant in the competition. Many fans of the show “The Voice of Ukraine” are already predicting Katya Chilly’s victory in the finals of the competition, but time will tell how events will develop.

Now, in addition to being busy with a media project, Katya Chilly continues to give live concerts, the last of which took place on March 2.

Personal life

The singer’s personal life is behind the scenes: Katya does not advertise her relationships or marital status. But judging by the change of Kondratenko’s maiden name to Bogolyubova, the singer’s husband was pianist Alexey Bogolyubov, who works with her in the same group.

Three years ago, the first-born son Svyatozar appeared in the family of Ekaterina and Alexei, whom the artist already takes with her to many performances.

Discography

  • "Mermaids in da House" - (1998)
  • "Dream" - (2002)
  • “I am young” - (2006)

Irina received the nickname “Chile” in childhood, when friends learned the story about her father, a Chilean revolutionary.

After a real threat loomed over the airwaves of the “Crime” track being rotated more than 50 times a day, DJs began to refuse callers. What was strange was not even the fact that on the waves of the highest-rated Russian FM station there was a group that had never appeared on television or in the press, but that no one could confidently determine the gender of the person to whom this unique voice could belong.

Voice

The voice was truly unique - a contralto voice, rare for pop performers, was woven into the modern rhythms of the dance arrangements. It was not difficult to understand the confusion of radio listeners - classical composers often wrote parts for teenage boys and young men for this register, for example: Vanya in Glinka’s opera Ivan Susanin or Siebel in Gounod’s Faust. In world pop music today only the forever young Cher has such vocals. The name of the soloist (and this is really a girl) of the Kaliningrad group “Chile” is Irina.

As soon as you see a fiery red-haired girl with huge green eyes and a strong, deep voice in front of you, there is no doubt about her explosiveness. Such expectations are fully justified - Irina’s character is as changeable as her internal energy is strong. She leaves no doubt that this is a real star. This stream of plasma is capable of creating new songs in a matter of moments, bringing an audience of thousands into ecstasy, or destroying everything in its path. It happens that household electrical appliances burn out right in Irina’s hands, guitar strings break due to an unsuccessful chord, and a flat joke can cost the wit serious bodily harm.

Chile

Irina received the nickname “Chile” in childhood, when friends learned a story about her father, a Chilean revolutionary, which was told to the girl by her mother, who went on a long voyage on a merchant ship. Irina never found out whether this was true or just a desire to console her daughter, but since then she was listed by name or surname only in official documents.

The singer met another member of the group, composer and arranger Sergei, at one of his student concerts. “It was the most extreme acquaintance,” says the musician, “I was wearing new leather pants, which seemed very cool to me. And then a beautiful girl comes up to the stage and tugs my pant leg. It seemed to me that this was a frank hint of close acquaintance, and I felt like just a megastar. However, as it turned out later, she without further ado decided to check whether it was genuine leather.”

A few days later, the future participants of the musical tandem met again in the university hall, where Sergei was rehearsing behind the stage, and on the court was the KVN team, whose players Irina was friends with. “She said only a few phrases, and I immediately invited her to sing backing vocals,” says the musician. “She agreed, and that’s where our collaboration began.”

Kaliningrad – Moscow - Warsaw

At first, the key role in the duet was played by Sergei, who was a composer, arranger and frontman all rolled into one. Irina got only minor parts. By 2002, the first album was recorded, and the guys with a box of discs set off to storm the capital

show business. Despite a dozen successful club concerts, a month spent in Moscow does not bring strategic victories - record labels and radio stations do not react in any way to the demo recording. Upon returning home, the duo, which by that time had achieved local popularity in the Kaliningrad region, was invited to tour to nearby Poland. For three summer months, the musicians tour local venues. They perform in small clubs and at festivals, the audience of which at times amounted to forty thousand people.

“Listening to our recording, we felt that it was somehow neutral,” says Sergei, “the drive appeared and then disappeared again. Then the idea arose to make a castling, to bring Irina to the forefront.” The idea was so successful that the track of the Russian group, named after the “middle name” of the new soloist, hit the Polish radio airwaves. On the chart of one of the top FM stations in Warsaw, “Chile” rose to third place and stayed in the TOP 20 for several weeks, ahead of even the star compatriots t.A.T.u., who only reached fifth place.

"Omut" of the radio broadcast

Having become popular touring performers in Poland, a year after their first visit to the capital, “Chile” again storms Moscow. This time, the guys are stocking up on a list of showbiz people who need to personally deliver a demo recording with a new voice. But the wall is not giving in - the entertainment industry is in no hurry to respond. By chance, the most insignificant contact works - through a friend working at one of the recording studios, the demo ends up with the famous sound producer Yaznur Garipov, who sensed remarkable potential in the recording and invited the musicians to record the material in the capital.

On June 2, 2005, recording began, for which the musicians had time to adequately prepare - 12 tracks for the new album were selected from more than a hundred songs composed by Irina and Sergei over the past few years. That same fall, the first single “Crime” reaches the program director of Russian Radio, Marcel Gonzalez, who instantly understands the huge potential of the new stars and the song ends up in rotation. Regional FM stations in Russia and the CIS countries immediately picked up the wave - in just a month, Irina’s unique voice sounded on the radio air in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The first track was followed by the dramatic song “New Year in Bed”, which consolidated the success of “Chile”.

Lifting the veil

In November before the New Year, the debut video clip for the third single “Chile” “New Year in Bed” was filmed, but the secret of the owner of the voice was never revealed to the general public. According to the script, Irina and Sergey play producers at a casting, where the words of the song are “performed” by applicants of different types, genders and races. The musicians, disguised as show business sharks, do not reveal their incognito until the very end of the video.

Also already on air is a video for the song “Whirlpool” with an intriguing gangster-prison drama and a beach video in the “hippie” style shot for the track “Summer”.

Now "Chile", in collaboration with sound producer Yaznur Garipov, are finishing recording their debut album, and are planning to shoot a new video. The album's release is scheduled for autumn 2006
