Draw herbaceous plants near the house with a pencil. Drawing grass, earth and stones

Introduction

I haven't written any lessons for a long time. I promise this one will be short and simple. I don't really like drawing grass, just because it's boring and takes a lot of time (I'd rather draw clouds or something...) ...:) But I hope you find this tutorial useful. So, let's start...

STEP 1: Foundation

The very first stage is creating the basis for our so-called grass. Use a medium green color (I'd venture to guess you're going for a standard GREEN grass) and use a 14 px hard brush to paint some straight lines.

As you can see, the lines at the bottom are more saturated than at the top. That's how it should be, okay?

STEP 2: Blur

Now we need to make the tips of the grass sharp. This effect cannot be achieved at the very beginning, I don’t even know why. In any case, take a 19 px brush, the Smudge tool, set its intensity to 70-80%, and start smudging the ends :)

STEP 3: Shadows

Now let's add some shadows. To do this, use at least two darker tones. The lighter one first. Draw in the same way as in the first stage, but just remember - “the deeper, the darker.” No need to shade the ends. They are located close to the light source, moreover, they are thin and quite transparent. Use some small hard brush with Opacity up to 30%.

STEP 4: More lines

Repeat step 2. Take a dark color, set the Opacity to 60% and draw some thin lines (with a 3 px brush).

STEP 5: Highlights and Contrast

Take light color. Use it on the tips of the grass. Brush size 3 pixels, hard, very high level Opacity. Even up to 80%. Add some dark color on the bottom at the roots ( soft brush, size 60 pixels, with Opacity 20%). You'll get a nice contrast.

Drawing landscapes on paper is a very painstaking process. It is often difficult to convey the shape of miniature elements, which is why the realism of the painting suffers. Usually the stumbling block for beginning artists is precisely vegetable world. As the work progresses, a lot of questions arise, and one of them is: how to draw grass?

Materials and complexity

You can depict vegetation using any art materials, starting from a simple pencil and ending with pastels. However, the choice of means for a given task significantly affects the complexity of its implementation.

For example, oddly enough, it will be most difficult to draw grass with a slate pencil. You will have to put a lot of effort into achieving a noticeable color transition and highlighting each sprout.

It will be a little easier to depict what you have planned with dry pastels, but in this case you will need knowledge about color or practical skills. Before drawing the grass, it is advisable to make several test sketches on a separate sheet of paper.

Paint work is simple, but... realistic picture you'll have to tinker. In nature, the shades of the leaves of one plant can differ, and the same happens with grass. Two blades of grass growing side by side are not the same because the pigment distribution is uneven. Thus, when using paints, you will first need to select the desired shades and only then start creating.

grass step by step with a pencil

To reliably depict the green cover of the soil, you should spend some time observing it, or at least look through several different photographs on the Internet. It is required to examine in detail the shape of the blades of grass, to understand how it behaves under the influence various factors, and most importantly, how the plants look from different angles.

To work you will need:

  • eraser;
  • a sheet of paper of any size;
  • pencils of different hardness.

Stages

  1. Before you draw grass with a pencil, you should remember that it grows in one direction. Some blades of grass may deviate, but the entire cover should not be ragged and puff up chaotically. Guided by this principle, you need to outline a barely noticeable outline of the vegetation, not forgetting about the direction of the elements.
  2. Place light accents of light in the background, guided by the position of the sun.
  3. Draw individual elements and the foreground more carefully.
  4. Start shading, adding shadows and arranging reflections.

After completing this stage, the drawing is almost ready, all that remains is to finalize it and add additional accents at the artist’s discretion.

How to draw grass with gouache

The technique used to depict vegetation depends on the material chosen. For example, drawing grass with gouache is quite simple. The principle is the same for the foreground and background.

To paint, you will need a thick brush and a palette with ready-made shades. The entire landscape should already be ready, the grass should be depicted last.

  1. The paint is applied with light strokes from the bottom edge of the sheet. It is advisable to take a little gouache on the brush, otherwise the desired effect will not work.
  2. The length of the stroke depends on the height of the grass. You need to pull it exactly to this point, gradually reducing the pressure on the brush.
  3. The color of the blades of grass should not be the same, so you should not try to even it out.

This method is not only suitable for filling the foreground. Guided by the principle of how to paint grass with paints, you can stretch the vegetation cover over the entire sheet. In this case, you must first apply short strokes to the background and, after waiting for the gouache to dry, continue working in layers.

Grass in watercolor

In order for a watercolor drawing to come out successfully, you need to stock up on masking fluid in advance. It will cover those places that are painted over last (in this case, it is grass).

Painting with watercolors is easy:

  1. Need to make it easy pencil sketch with a landscape image.
  2. Carefully fill the outline of each blade of grass with masking liquid.
  3. Next, you can safely apply paint to the part of the sheet that is filled with plant cover, creating a general color background. It is advisable to use several shades of green and yellow. Don’t be afraid to paint over areas covered with masking fluid - the product does not allow pigment to pass onto the paper and is easily removed along with excess watercolor.
  4. This stage should be started when the landscape is almost ready. Before you paint the grass, you need to clean the sheet of masking liquid. You can do this with your nails.

In clean areas, all that remains is to paint blades of grass with watercolors. It is worth using shades that were not used to create the background, but are close to them in order to highlight each element.

Pastel

The vegetation cover should be drawn with short shading, using all the shades of green and yellow available in the arsenal. The main thing in such work is color, so accents and light and shade need to be placed correctly, preferably by checking with the original.

You should be especially precise when applying a dark color, since not all light shades can cover it. The same applies to bright yellow.

In my opinion, painting grass with paints is much easier, because everything here is done by correctly selected colors and shades.

How to paint a landscape, including grass, with paints, but not with a brush, but with crumpled paper- it’s interesting and most importantly it looks great!

At first glance it seems that paint the grass with paints very difficult, but it only seems :)

In reality, there is nothing complicated in drawing grass, the main thing is to know how to do it step by step.

First you need to apply paint strokes as shown below, and then step by step add details:

Paint the grass with oils or watercolor paints It’s quite easy if you know a little application technique, plus the sequence of mixing shades.

Many people paint using mixed strokes with a brush. different colors, and so on, blade by blade of grass, until you get a great clearing. Then they throw on various individual spikelets and flowers, a fallen twig somewhere, etc.

How to draw grass oil paints- video lesson

To depict grass, you can use different techniques and the methods that are in the video tutorials with step by step drawing. Each technique has its own nuances that must be followed in order for everything to work out correctly.

To draw grass, you need to highlight several stages:

    • I will create the basis for future grass;
    • we wash away the grass;
    • sharpen the ends of the grass;
    • draw shadows;
    • we make contrast.

Here is a video tutorial showing three ways to paint grass.

Painting grass with paints is both difficult and easy at the same time. Of course, there is nothing difficult in taking a brush, dipping it in green paint and draw something to represent grass. However, such a drawing will be childish, devoid of liveliness and naturalness. In order to draw grass, you need to remember that one shade of green will not be enough. Grass cannot be the same green color. Even grass growing nearby will have a different shade. In nature, in general, everything, as a rule, plays with shades of the same color. If you follow this rule when drawing, then the grass shown in the picture will look alive. You can watch a video of how to paint grass with paints here. Acrylic paints used in the video:

On the one hand, it is very easy to paint grass with paints. On the other hand, to achieve real effect, you need to tinker.

Step 1. Draw the base for the grass. Movement of the brush in jerks from bottom to top

Step 2. Add shadows. The deeper the grass, the darker it is. Movements are also jerky.

Step 3. For the density of the grass cover, you should draw thin blades of grass. This is done with the tip of a brush

Step 4. Add light accents to the tips of the grass. And drawing some light thin lines.

This is roughly how artists draw beautiful grass.

Drawing grass with gouache is very simple. You can see how to do this in the video:

Grass can often be seen in landscapes; it is an integral part of the picture.

You can learn to paint grass quite quickly; you don’t need any special skills for this. When painting grass with paint, you can choose two ways: paint in bunches of blades of grass, blades of grass individually, or an array of green grass in a green shade with various visible blades of grass.

When drawing individual leaves of grass, the brush with paint touches the paper and, without looking up, we make a stroke with green paint. Later we only show various shades and background.

When starting to draw grass, you can first do this with a simple pencil or draw the grass with colored pencils more green, and also in places brown, with a yellow tint, and blue.

After that, dip a brush in water and paint with watercolors.

To make the background look like grass with a solid greenish tint, first draw a layer yellow, and then with strokes individual blades of grass, as they come from the general mass.

To make the landscape with grass more realistic, add individual flowers, a background with the sky, butterflies, etc.

You can paint on a dry sheet that has not been moistened with water, or moisten your brushes with water, paints and make strokes.

When planning to draw grass, we choose our own drawing style, you can show it with a pencil.

The grass can be drawn entirely as a single carpet without individual details using stroke lines.

The grass can be shown to be of different thicknesses in different areas, matted in places and thicker. You can show grass that bends in the wind.

Let the wetter layer dry, then draw individual blades of grass.

Let's watch a video on how to paint grass with acrylic paints.

A very good video tutorial on drawing grass can be seen here

It turns out that there is absolutely nothing complicated about painting grass with paints. Even a person without special artistic abilities can draw.

This is an average difficulty lesson. It can be difficult for adults to repeat this lesson, so I don’t recommend drawing grass for young children using this lesson, but if you have great desire- then you can try it. I also want to note the lesson “” - be sure to try it again if you still have time and desire to draw today.

What you will need

Please note that to complete this lesson you will need several items from different areas drawing.

In order to draw grass we may need:

  • Paper. It is better to take medium-grain special paper: beginning artists will find it much more pleasant to draw on this kind of paper.
  • Sharpened pencils. I advise you to take several degrees of hardness, each should be used for different purposes.
  • Eraser.
  • Stick for rubbing hatching. You can use plain paper rolled into a cone. It will be easy for her to rub the shading, turning it into a monotonous color.
  • Watercolor or oil paints.
  • A clean palette to mix colors and create new combinations.
  • Water for dissolving paints and soaking brushes.
  • Set of brushes. Professionals advise using natural brushes, but beginners can also use synthetic ones.
  • A clean cloth to wipe your brushes.
  • You need Photoshop program.
  • A little patience.
  • Good mood.

Step by step lesson

True nature in all its beauty can only be revealed if you draw it from life. It will be much better to draw if you look directly at the grass. If this is not possible, then they can help regular photos, which are simply in abundance in search engines.

By the way, in addition to this lesson, I advise you to pay attention to the lesson “”. It will help improve your skill or just give you a little fun.

Please note that every object, every living creature, every phenomenon on paper can be depicted using simple geometric objects: circles, squares and triangles. They are the ones who create the form; they are the ones the artist needs to see in the surrounding objects. There is no house, there are several large rectangles and a triangle. Build this way difficult subjects much easier.

Tip: create a sketch with as thin strokes as possible. The thicker the sketch strokes are, the more difficult it will be to erase them later.

The first step, or rather the zero step, is always to mark a sheet of paper. This will let you know where exactly the drawing will be located. If you place the drawing on half of the sheet, you can use the other half for another drawing. Here is an example of marking a sheet in the center:

Welcome to another lesson! This time we will look at how to draw grass using copics markers, as well as a method using digital programs (Photoshop, Paint tool SAI). But, first, I would like to tell you some rules for drawing grass.

Rule 1.

Remember that grass does not grow evenly! It is growing in many different directions.

Therefore, remember that if you draw it all straight up, as in example A, it will look rough and unnatural. Even after using a lawnmower, the grass may not have this effect. The only time grass can be drawn in one direction is when you are drawing a very strong wind (and then the grass should be quite long!)

See on topic: How to draw

Rule 2.

Grass has many colors and shades!

I took each of these colors on the right directly from this photo of grass in my yard to show you that grass contains more than just color!

The grass contains a variety of colors that range from yellow-green to dark green. Please don't make your grass one color, or even just two! The colorful grass looks like believable grass!

Digital painting of grass (Photoshop, Paint tool SAI). Start by painting the plane lightly green, where your grass should be.

Now select a regular brush with hard edges and a yellow or lime color, and then start adding lines of different sizes and directions (on foreground the blades of grass will look longer)

After you have painted the entire surface with light blades of grass, take a dark green one and repeat the previous step.

Do the same steps again with a less saturated green color. Then add some smaller blades of grass in dark green and light green for a more complex look.

So you learned how to draw grass, I hope it was interesting and informative. Now you can pay attention to the lesson “” - it is just as interesting and exciting. Well, the buttons social networks It's not just like that =)
