Release year: 2008

Genre: adventure, comedy, fantasy, drama

Type: feature film

Number of episodes: 1 (113 min.)

Description: The film follows the plot of the anime series, and is, in fact, just a remake of it. Very few scenes in the film have been changed. One day, a very advanced civilization determined that further population of its planet, as well as others, including the Earth, could cause serious harm to the entire universe. The anti-spiralists won the war against people and established their own rules: instead of the Moon, they installed a ship ready to destroy people as soon as their number exceeded a million.

Many hundreds of years have passed since then, people began to live underground in gorges and caves, creating villages for themselves there, fearing earthquakes. Kamina and Simon, who have always dreamed of sunshine and freedom, want to break out to the surface. One day, Simon, who works as a driller, finds a robot called Lagann, which can be started using a small drill key. The girl Yoko, the best sniper of Riton, falls to the guys from the surface, and then it begins. A friendly company destroys the gunman, and after him the beastman who controlled this robot. The guys get to the surface and want to confront the higher forces that have robbed them of their freedom and normal life for so long.

The works of Japanese animators do not remain meaningless: anime is gaining enormous popularity around the world. The first thing that attracts viewers is the drawing style. Unusual, bright characters attract attention and make you fall in love with them. With the development of animation, anime creators began to focus not only on the appearance of their characters, but also on their characters and behavior.

Detailed portrayal of characters and the desire to understand the essence give rise to quite rare anime, where the main character is strong, but pretends to be a weakling for some reason.

Attack on Titan: Armin Arleth

It should be noted that there are heroes who, although physically weak, are incredibly strong intellectually.

Armin Arlert is one of the main characters in the anime Attack on Titan. Unlike his best friend Eren, he does not have outstanding physical abilities, but he has unsurpassed tactical intuition.

"The Seven Deadly Sins": Meliodas

A relatively new series (released in October 2014) “The Seven Lasting Sins” tells the story of the adventures of seven great warriors... Former great warriors, and now persecuted and persecuted for the murder of a holy knight attributed to them.

10 years later, after an attempted coup, the holy knights of the kingdom captured the king. The princess managed to escape. Thus begins the journey that will bring together the Seven Deadly Sins.

The Seven Deadly Sins is a typical example of an anime where the main character pretends to be weak.

The character Meliodas personifies the sin of anger (the sin of the dragon). He is the leader of the former Seven Great Warriors. It reflects the typical feature of anime, where the main character pretends to be a weakling. Outwardly, Meliodas is a cute boy. An indicative moment is the episode with the sword, when it turns out that it is broken. However, appearances can be deceiving. In battle, Meliodas turns out to be a skilled, invincible warrior, and his sword is an excellent weapon.

Meliodas has the ability to reproduce attacks, directing them to the opposing side, while multiplying the power of the blow. According to the plot, Meliodas is strong as a warrior in this anime. The weak protagonist appears in quiet moments when there is no need to show combat prowess. He is a little funny, lustful and very hot-tempered.

Fairy Tail: Mirajane and Makarov Dreyar

Without a shadow of a doubt, we can say that Fairy Tail is an anime where the main character pretends to be weak. Moreover, it is here that you can meet not one, but several similar characters.

Mirajane Strauss, aka Demon Mirajane, is outwardly sweet, calm, smiling, but you shouldn’t make her angry. Because by angering her, you can awaken a terrible demon.

Mirazhana is formerly one of the strongest magicians of the Fairy Tail guild. After the death of her younger sister, Mira lost her ability to transform. The magic “Demon Transformation”, which was previously under her control, becomes temporarily inaccessible to her... For as long as 16 years.

After losing Lisanna, Mira transforms from the explosive Demoness Mirajane into the sympathetic, patient and kind Mirochka.

Abilities inherent in the outwardly kind heroine (some of them): a master of close (hand-to-hand) combat, can transform everything as a whole, has dark magic and the magic of transformation, magic of water, lightning.

One of Mirajane's most powerful spells can be called “Soul of Satan.” This fighting form gives her the abilities and strength of the demon Halfas.

In addition to Mirajane Strauss in anime, where the main character pretends to be weak, there are a number of characters who also do not seem to have great strength outwardly.

For example, Guild Master Makarov Dreyar. The puny, decrepit and short Makarov turns out to be a Titan, capable of increasing the size of his body several times.

"Deathman Wonderland": Ganta Igarashi

Ganta Igarashi is a sentenced fourteen-year-old student who, not only in appearance, but also in reality, turns out to be not strong enough. He is an impressionable and sensitive teenager who, by tragic coincidence, became the only survivor of an incident where an entire class was murdered. The mysterious Red Man not only did not kill Gantu, but also placed a Crystal in his chest. It is thanks to him that Ganta can now control blood.

He has average combat skills, average intelligence, but is extremely durable. His weakness is his limited blood supply. With the ability to change the shape of blood, he can die from blood loss if the battle lasts for a long time. And the ability to collect blood into a fist is ineffective over long distances.

"Darker than Black": Li Shenshun

Li Shenshun, aka Hei, is a prominent example of an anime where the main character pretends to be weak so as not to be found out.

In the normal world, he wears a nondescript black jacket and is quite awkward. However, transforming from the everyman Lee into Hei, known as the Black Reaper, he becomes a formidable opponent.

He has the ability to control electricity, can change the structure of substances, and also masterfully wields a special knife. He is easy to recognize by his appearance: he wears a distinctive black cloak.

When you first meet Li Shenshun, you think that he is an ordinary guy, but after seeing his skills and abilities during the battle, in the future you simply don’t remember his imaginary awkwardness and weakness. And all because you understand that this is just a game, necessary for the hero for reasons known only to him.

Do you know a lot of anime where he hides his strength or pretends to be weak? Surely a lot. Or at least there will be a couple of examples with a protagonist who will have several skeletons in his closet.

Most often, such a plot can be found in the shounen genre or, as is now fashionable, in a magic school. Almost every second series (if not the first) is replete with similar plot twists.

We will try to consider the newest representatives of this category:

The Irregular at Magic High School

An anime with a strong guy who hides his strength, or rather about a brother and sister. The story takes place in a world where magic and science go hand in hand and are practically interchangeable. In such a universe, people are divided into ordinary people and wizards, and the latter, in turn, into “weeds” and the chosen ones.

Once again, the viewer is presented with a system of social inequality and clanism, which is very much affected within the framework of this work. The main character, named Tatsuya, enters an educational institution with the highest score in the theoretical part, but in practice he is only a weakling. But is this really so?

The first season was produced by the MadHouse studio, and the full-length film was made by 8 bit.

Welcome to the Classroom of the Elite

An anime where he is a loner and hides his strength, and this time there was no witchcraft and similar paraphernalia, which makes the film adaptation of the novel of the same name more interesting.

The story is told from the perspective of a protagonist named Kiyotaka Ayanokoji. He enrolls in an elite school, which is famous not only for its graduates around the world, but also horrifies its students with local rules and traditions. By a strange coincidence, Kiyotaka ends up in the worst of the classes, which is fighting for survival (an attempt to avoid expulsion or punishment for academic failure).

There, the main character meets a silent and unfriendly girl named Morikita, who also, due to certain factors, becomes Ayanokoji's neighbor. But is the seemingly ordinary high school student who constantly talks about this really inept and inexperienced? Or, perhaps, he pursues certain goals that only he understands.

The animated series was released in 2012, and the Lerche studio is responsible for production.

Persona 5

A film adaptation of the most popular and best-selling game in Japan, which received the highest ratings in both the east and the west. This is the best anime about a guy who hides his strength and his peers who help him in this very matter.

The plot is as follows:

The protagonist intervenes in a quarrel between a man and a woman, the outcome of which could lead to very sad consequences. As a result, the brawler turns out to be none other than an important government official. The result is obvious: the girl is forced to remain silent, and the brave poor fellow is accused of a crime that he did not commit.

After a while, almost abandoned to the will of fate, the unfortunate high school student moves in with the owner of a cafe, who is an acquaintance of his parents. A labeled gangster and criminal on probation begins attending a new school.

Little did he know that on the very first day of his visit he would not only become a hostage in the virtual world, gain mysterious power and a reliable friend, but also possibly prevent the approaching and inevitable death of humanity.

Anime from studio "A-1". The characters are voiced by the same actors who were present in the game, including Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch) and Mumoru Miyano (Light Yagami)

Nonsense (Zaregotozukai)

The ideological heir to the Gatar series, this time with a detective twist. The main character of this anime is lazy, but at the same time he has hidden deductive abilities, which more than once help him in investigating the next case in which he, willy-nilly, finds himself drawn into.

And everything would be fine, but every time, having practically got to the bottom of the truth in the course of a sudden incident, the protagonist understands that all his conclusions and reasoning turn out to be nothing more than a delusion (although they help in uncovering), and the true face hiding behind the crime turns out to be so absurd and ridiculous that only one word comes to mind - nonsense.

Animated series from the studio "Shaft"

Code Geass

Of course, it was impossible not to mention the great and terrible Code Geass, where he is very smart and strong (of course not in the physical sense), who has to hide his hidden abilities from all the characters (well, or almost all).

The plot originates in a parallel reality, or to be more precise, a completely different universe, where the world is ruled by great Britain, and Japan has become nothing more than a colony in the hands of a huge monopolist and invader.

The protagonist named Lelouch, the former heir to the throne, who lost all his power with the help of his enemies, plays the role of an exemplary student in public, but in his heart he conceals plans to overthrow the usurpers. But his plan to carry out revenge was destined to come true much faster, since due to an accident, Lelouch becomes the owner of a magical gift - Geass.
